A. An umbilical cord has 2 arteries and one vein. But some babies have just one artery and one vein. This is known as 2 vessel cord diagnosis. For some women, 2 vessel cord diagnosis does not cause any noticeable differences in their pregnancies. However, some babies with a single artery are at increased risk for birth defects. They might have heart problems, kidney problems or spinal defects. Sometimes babies have genetic abnormality. Babies may not grow properly. Please contact your doctor for further information. All the best.
