Q.

If a child doesn't drink any type of drink..Then what should be done..

A. Kids who have completed 1 year can eat anything that the family eats adjusted for spices. Do not force feed child and let them decide how much he/she wants to eat. Research on BLW for babies and Traditional weaning techniques for babies on FB.  Give caloric and nutrient dense foods such as avocados, ghee, butter, paneer, cheese, dry fruits like almonds, cashews, raisins, dates, sesame seeds, anjeer, apricots. Use banana, potato, proteins like chana and other pulses in baby's recipes.  Don't feed only milk all the time as it can cause anemia in kids and that in turn causes drop in appetite. Give coconut water, homemade soups, watery khichdi, buttermilk, lassi, cucumber lemon mint infused water, smoothies, anything that he likes. Best thing is to involve the child in the preparation of said drinks and make him interested in the food. Also explain the benefits of having sufficient water/liquids. Dr. Binocs, Storybots are some educational shows you can watch together. Make sure he has atleast 3 hours of active play in a day, that makes him sweat and want to drink water. You could also try to make him eat slightly spicy food that makes him drink water afterwards. Ensure that child has a balanced diet with lots of different varieties of vegetables and fruits, multi grains etc. Avoid biscuits, chocolates, cakes, sweets, fried snacks and all processed food as they are low in fiber, high in sugar, not nutritious, and decrease hunger.
