POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy1 Year agoA. For a persistent cough with mucus in a four-year-old, it's important to ensure the treatment is appropriate and effective. Mucolytic syrups like Muco-Light can help thin and loosen mucus, making it easier to expel. However, persistent coughs lasting more than a week should be evaluated by a doctor to rule out any underlying conditions, such as a respiratory infection or asthma.
Here are some general steps you can take:
1. **Hydration**: Ensure your child drinks plenty of fluids to help thin the mucus.
2. **Humidifier**: Using a cool-mist humidifier in your child's room can help keep the air moist and reduce coughing.
3. **Saline Drops and Suction**: For nasal congestion, saline drops and a nasal aspirator can help clear mucus from the nasal passages.
It's crucial to consult your pediatrician before continuing or starting any new medication, even over-the-counter options. Your doctor can provide the most appropriate treatment based on your child's specific symptoms and health status. If the cough persists or worsens, seek medical attention promptly.
