Q.

I had my usg today according to which I should be 36 weeks today but it came out to be 34 weeks. Weight of the baby is 2400g and there is a single loop of cord around neck. Doctor has advised me to go for C-sec in 1st week of May. I am very confused regarding opting for C-sec and why there is delayed growth in USG.

A. An umbilical cord that is wrapped around a baby's neck in utero is called a nuchal cord, and usually is harmless. An umbilical cord is a lifeline for a baby in the womb. Running from the baby's abdomen to the placenta, the umbilical cord usually contains three blood vessels and is about 21” long.
