A. At 47 years old, a delayed period could be due to several factors, and it's not uncommon to experience changes in your menstrual cycle as you approach menopause. Here are a few possible reasons for your delay: 1. Perimenopause: This is the transition phase before menopause, which typically begins in a woman's 40s. During perimenopause, hormone levels fluctuate, leading to irregular periods, missed periods, or changes in cycle length. 2. Stress or lifestyle changes: Stress, significant changes in diet or weight, or increased physical activity can also disrupt your cycle. 3. Hormonal imbalances: Changes in thyroid function or other hormonal imbalances could cause delays in your menstrual cycle. 4. Medications: If you’re on new medications, they may affect your cycle. 5. Pregnancy: Even though your home pregnancy tests are negative, it's still a possibility. Hormone levels vary, and it’s a good idea to retest after a few days or consult your doctor for a blood test, which is more accurate. If your periods continue to be irregular or you have other concerning symptoms, consulting with your gynecologist would be the best course of action to explore any underlying causes.
