A. hello..Wash, Chop tomatoes, coriander leaves and garlic roughly, Keep it ready along with other ingredients. Wash and cook toor dal with required water in a pressure cooker for 3-5 whistles in medium low flame. Open the cooker once pressure released, ,mash it well with a ladle or spoon. Set aside. Firstly take the chopped tomatoes, pepper corns and cumin seeds in a mixer grinder/ blender. Grind them to a smooth paste by adding half cup of water. Set aside. Heat a pan with a tsp of sesame oil or ghee, add mustard seeds and asafoetida . Let it splutter, then add chopped garlic and roast it for a minute. Now add the ground tomato pepper cumin seeds paste along with turmeric powder and required salt. Saute in medium low flame for 5 minutes until streaks of oil starts to appear. Now Add 1 cup of water along with cooked mashed toor dal. Boil it again until frothy in low flame. Don't boil for more time as the rasam will not taste good if boiled for long time. Switch off the flame once done. Add powdered jaggery and coriander leaves. Strain the rasam with a strainer for small babies and serve.
