1 Answer

A. Baby jaundice is a common condition in newborns, caused by excess bilirubin in the blood. It usually appears within 2-4 days after birth and goes away on its own in most cases.
Signs of Jaundice in Babies
✔ Yellowing of Skin & Eyes – Starts from the face and spreads to the chest, belly, and legs.
✔ Dark Yellow Urine – Instead of colorless urine.
✔ Pale or White Stools – Instead of normal yellow stools.
✔ Excessive Sleepiness – Baby is hard to wake up for feeding.
✔ Poor Feeding – Baby refuses to drink milk or feeds very little.
How to Check for Jaundice at Home?
🔸 Press Test: Gently press your baby's nose or forehead with a finger. If the skin looks yellow when you remove your finger, jaundice may be present.
🔸 Good Light Check: Look at your baby in natural daylight near a window; yellowing is more visible.
🔸 Monitor Baby’s Activity: If baby is very sleepy or not feeding well, consult a doctor.
When to See a Doctor?
🚨 Immediately consult a doctor if:
❌ Jaundice spreads to arms and legs or worsens after 5-7 days.
❌ Baby is not feeding well or losing weight rapidly.
❌ Stools turn pale/white or urine becomes dark yellow.
❌ Baby has fever, irritability, or excessive sleepiness.
Treatment Options
🔹 Mild Jaundice: Usually resolves on its own with proper feeding.
🔹 Moderate to Severe Jaundice: May require phototherapy (light treatment) or, in rare cases, a blood transfusion.
🌞 Natural Help: Ensure frequent breastfeeding (every 2-3 hours), and let the baby get sunlight exposure (morning light for 10-15 mins).
