Dr Vandan H KumarFather of a 8 yr old boy1 Year agoA. try to prevent temperature variations around child that is from hot to cold and cold to hot environment. keep the child well covered. if the palms and soles of the child are cold to touch then the child is feeling cold and you have to take preventive measures to make the child warm. you can go for home remedies like tulsi ginger honey (add honey if child is more than 1 year of age) combination which can be diluted with water and given frequently to the child. also u can give turmericx with warm milk one or two times everyday. give warm water to drink as well as nasal saline drops frequently.

POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 9 yr 1 m old boy1 Year agoA. Home remedies can be helpful in soothing a cough, especially for children and adults. Here are some effective and safe home remedies for cough relief: ### For Children: 1. **Honey (For Children Over 1 Year)**: - **Dosage**: Half to one teaspoon of honey can help soothe the throat and reduce coughing. - **Method**: Mix honey in warm water or herbal tea. - **Note**: Do not give honey to children under one year old due to the risk of botulism. 2. **Warm Fluids**: - **Examples**: Warm water, clear broths, warm apple juice, or herbal teas. - **Benefit**: Helps to keep the throat moist and reduces irritation. 3. **Humidifier**: - **Method**: Use a cool-mist humidifier in the child's room to keep the air moist, which can help reduce coughing, especially at night. 4. **Saline Drops and Bulb Syringe**: - **Method**: Use saline nasal drops to loosen mucus and a bulb syringe to clear nasal passages. - **Benefit**: Helps children breathe more easily, reducing postnasal drip that can cause coughing. 5. **Elevate Head During Sleep**: - **Method**: Raise the head of the bed or use extra pillows to elevate the child's head. - **Benefit**: Helps reduce coughing at night by preventing mucus from pooling in the throat. ### For Adults: 1. **Honey and Lemon**: - **Method**: Mix one tablespoon of honey with a few drops of lemon juice in warm water or tea. - **Benefit**: Soothes the throat and has antibacterial properties. 2. **Ginger Tea**: - **Method**: Boil fresh ginger slices in water for a few minutes, then strain and add honey or lemon. - **Benefit**: Ginger has anti-inflammatory properties and can help reduce coughing. 3. **Steam Inhalation**: - **Method**: Inhale steam from a bowl of hot water or take a hot shower. - **Benefit**: Helps loosen mucus and clear nasal passages. 4. **Salt Water Gargle**: - **Method**: Dissolve half a teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water and gargle for a few seconds. - **Benefit**: Soothes the throat and reduces irritation. 5. **Thyme Tea**: - **Method**: Steep one to two teaspoons of dried thyme in hot water for 10 minutes, then strain and drink. - **Benefit**: Thyme has antitussive (cough-suppressant) properties. ### General Tips: - **Stay Hydrated**: Drink plenty of fluids to keep the throat moist and help thin mucus. - **Avoid Irritants**: Stay away from smoke, strong perfumes, and other irritants that can trigger coughing. - **Rest**: Ensure adequate rest to help the body recover. ### When to Seek Medical Attention: - **Persistent Cough**: If the cough lasts more than a few weeks. - **Severe Symptoms**: If there are signs of difficulty breathing, high fever, or chest pain. - **For Infants**: If a baby under three months has a cough, it's important to seek medical advice promptly. These remedies can help alleviate symptoms, but if the cough persists or worsens, it’s important to consult a healthcare provider for further evaluation and treatment.
