Avoid distractions like TV, mobile phones, laptops and tablets during meal time as it leads to severe addiction as it turns into a habit that the child finds hard to break away from. Kids learn to eat in accordance with these external distracting cues. They tend to eat a lot more slowly, lazily and in an uninterested manner than if they focused on the food. Eating distractedly can cause them to overeat in some cases as well. The kid may not chew the food properly because of distraction and sometimes this can lead to choking hazard and can also lead to indigestion and even an upset stomach. Making meal time a collective activity that your family is engaged in teaches your kid the importance of keeping in touch with family and this also strengthens the bond. Because of screen time during meal time, the kid learns that interacting while being seated right beside your family members for an extended period of time is unimportant.
