Q.

Hi, This is Supriya, mother of 5.5 months baby boy. I am concerned and confused about how to introduce solids for the first time. can you please suggest to me what we need give for the first time and how frequently we need to give per day. Overall I would like to know for the first month of solid and breastfeeding routine. would be helpful if you provide the schedule for solids and breastfeeding

A. Soft, mashed and hygienically prepared foods like you can begin with porridges (like rice, Ragi, wheat flour , moong dal and rice flour mix) , kheer then dal-rice with vegetables, veg khichadi, soft mashed fruits, curds, later mashed paneer cheese, Vegetable Daliya consistency of food should be like that of ghee avoid water thin foods like thin dals and rice water, soups. Squeeze lemon in baby's food for iron absorption. start with 3-4 tsp and then about half katori per meal about 2 to 3 meals per day. give 1 food for about 3-6 days for baby to accept and to see how baby tolerates it then introduce another new food Initially give after a breastfeed, or between two feeds; later give as breakfast, lunch ,dinner continue to breastfeed
