Hi sir/madam My 16 days old boy has a pause in breathing and his birth weight is 2400g. There is a pause around 7 to 10 seconds and resumes breath again. He takes 4 to 6 breaths for around 5 to 7 seconds. Is that normal doctor...? Kindly explain doctor... Thank you

A. Your baby may have breathing that pauses for up to 10 seconds at a time. This is called periodic breathing. There may be several such pauses close together, followed by a series of rapid, shallow breaths. This irregular breathing pattern is common in premature babies in the first few weeks of life.
