Q.

hi, my baby is having viral fever as per doctor. She started to have high temperature from last saturday (3 days before) .Yesterday she was having high temp ( above 100 F) after gap of 5 hours and we were giving paracetamol drops. today she is having high temp around 101.6 F after gap of 4 hours. Is this expected? as doctor mentioned fever might continue for 3-4 days but gap will increase. Gap between high temp seems to have increased now

A. Fever is a reaction of the body to different pyrogens released during any Infection. Usually temp more than 99 F is taken as fever . Mostly in children fever is because of viral infections like flu or RSV where the fever is there for 4-5 days but may persist even upto 2 weeks . Initially antipyretic like paracetamol is given in a dose of 15 mg / kg/ dose. Can be repeated after 4-6 hrs if needed . Lukewarm sponge bath can be given as home rfemedy to decrease fever. Adequate fluid intake is also beneficial. Urine output monitorivyng is necessary to avoid dehydration .
