Q.

hi, my baby is 80 days old. she latches milk ( breastfeeding) only for 4 to 7 mins in every 2 or 3 hours. her birth weight was 3.080 kg now she is 5.4 kg. is it normal? she collect milk in her mouth once and tries to gulp in oneshot but end up choking. please suggest what can I do to prevent choking and what should be done when baby is choked

A. the weight is normal keep the child in upright position to decrease choking very important to see that position and attachment while breastfeeding the child is proper. if improper the child will continue to suck for long hrs without getting any milk. meet lactational counsellor who will guide regarding this. see videos on you tube for breastfeeding position and attachment. also look out for any oral thrush / ulcer or any problem in the oral cavity. rule out colic pain which might be causing discomfort to the child. take plenty of water, home made diet, seasonal fruits and vegetables, milk for increasing breast milk for yourself. take 15 to 30 days weight and growth assessment by the doctor.
