Q.

Hi, my 2 year old daughter is having cold and cough from 2 weeks. she mostly coughs in early morning between 4 am to 6 am while sleeping. we have visited a pediatrician and has prescribed asocril d Plus, otrivin nasal drops and budecort 0.5mg for nebulizer. as I see budecort 0.5mg Repsules is a corticosteroid , is it safe to use for a 2 year old baby? and does it have any long term side effects or impact?

A. Cough along with Cold most of the time is a viral illness and it needs supportive care along with proper hydration. you can give steam inhalation which is very useful . cough needs to be treated with anti allergic and expectorant bronchodilators or antitussives medicine which should be given only after a proper evaluation by the doctor according to the type of cough. if fever is there paracetamol can be gijvven to reduce the fever and the dose can be repeated after 6 hours again if required .
