Q.

hi doctor my son weighs 52 kg, 10 years old, last night he had fever I gave him dolo 650, again gave at 5 morning then 12 noon then 6 in evening, at 10 pm tonight I gave him meftal p 100 8 mL the fever was 102.5 now at 23:55 it is 101.7, now what should I do to reduce fever? should I again give dolo 650?

A. Fever is a reaction of the body to different pyrogens released during any Infection. Usually temp more than 99 F is taken as fever . Mostly in children fever is because of viral infections like flu or RSV where the fever is there for 4-5 days but may persist even upto 2 weeks . Initially antipyretic like paracetamol is given in a dose of 15 mg / kg/ dose. Can be repeated guafter 4-6 hrs if needed . Lukewarm sponge bath can be given as home remedy to decrease fever. Adequate fluid intakey is also beneficial. Urine output monitoring is necessary to avoid dehydration .
