Q.

Hi Doctor, My 4 year old is suffering from acute gastroenteritis since 6 days and still diarrhoea is not settling, as the fever is persistent and observed high grade 103 doctor advised to start antibiotics Taxim o . Before taking Taxim o he used to pass watery stool 1-2 in a day but after starting antibiotics his stool frequency increased to 6-7 watery stools in a day. My concern is why the diarrhoea got increased after antibiotics. Please let me know how long will this infection last and when diarrhoea will stop. Medication- bacillus clausi 2 times daily for 5 days Rantac syrup 5ml twice for 5 days Taxim o 5ml twice daily for 5 days Crocin ds 5 Ml every 6th hourly

A. Loose motion are most of the time infective where it is associated with fever and vomiting and its known as gastroenteritis where symptomatic treatment along with management forvt dehydration is required if loose motions are associated with foul smell mucous high grade fever than it could be bacterial infection which needs antibiotics treatment

Mam this would be difficult to say in how much time it is going to subside because the Doctor Who is monitoring the situation can only give you a correct assistance on that and that also after proper examination of the test report that the doctor must have advised to get done for the child it would be difficult for me to give you any advice on that currentlyWrite Your Answer Here
