A. It’s completely normal for an 11-month-old baby to show varying milestones when it comes to sitting and developing motor skills. While some babies may be sitting up independently at this age, others might still need support or may be in the process of developing the strength and coordination required to do so. Understanding Your Baby’s Development: Overrolling: It sounds like your baby is able to roll over easily, which is a positive sign of motor development. Rolling is an important step in strengthening the core muscles, which will eventually help with sitting and other movements. Sitting with Support: Many babies at this age are able to sit with a little support. This can be either from a caregiver or by propping up with pillows or toys. It’s a good sign that she is able to hold herself upright when given assistance. Not Sitting Independently Yet: While some babies start sitting independently as early as 6 to 7 months, others take a bit longer. It’s perfectly normal for an 11-month-old to still need some support. Sitting requires strength and balance, and babies develop these skills at different paces. What You Can Do to Encourage Sitting: 1. Tummy Time: Make sure she’s spending plenty of time on her tummy during the day. This helps build the muscles in her neck, back, and core, which are all important for sitting. 2. Supported Sitting: You can encourage your baby to sit by sitting her on the floor with pillows or cushions around her for support. This can help her feel stable while she practices balancing. 3. Gradual Independence: Try placing toys or objects around her to encourage reaching, which helps develop balance. As she gets used to sitting with support, gradually reduce the amount of support you provide so she can practice balancing on her own. 4. Be Patient: Every baby develops at their own pace. Some babies might take longer to sit independently, but it doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong. If your baby is progressing in other areas (such as rolling over, crawling, or standing with support), she is likely developing just fine. If you have concerns about your baby’s motor skills or development, it’s always a good idea to discuss them with your pediatrician, as they can provide more personalized advice.
