Q.

Hi doctor, I have hypothyroidism since I was a child, I'm 13 weeks pregnant now. I dint take my medicine correctly for the first 6 weeks of my pregnancy. That's why my TSH levels were elevated. Now, I have it under control. But, I'm worried bcz, for few weeks baby needs my thyroid hormones for the brain development. was the baby already got affected because of my negligence?

A. Most likely there might not have been any effect by now but there are chances of the baby will also get hypothyroidism as you also have got it since your childhood. Please take your medications at the right time from now on. After birth the baby should be screen for hypothyroidismWrite Your Answer Here
