Q.

Hello, My baby is 6 months old and is rubbing her eyes very frequently. In night also when she is asleep, rub her eyes. I visited doctor and he prescribed alerid syp 1.5 ml 2 times a day for 5 days. He said it is allergies due to weather. My sister is saying that alerid syp should not be given to a child below 2 year. I am confused now what to do. Should I visit another doctor?

A. ALERID works by blocking the effects of histamine, which may be overproduced in allergic reactions which causes unpleasant symptoms such as itchy or watery eyes, running or blocked nose, sneezing and skin rashes. This medicine is strictly not recommended for use in children under 2 years.
