POOJA KOTHARIExpecting Mom due in 1 month3 months agoA. After delivery, bleeding called lochia usually lasts for about 4 to 6 weeks but can vary from woman to woman. What you’re describing—bleeding stopping around 22 days, then restarting about 10 days later with good flow, and stopping again after 5 days—is not uncommon, but it’s important to watch closely.
Possible reasons for this bleeding pattern: Normal lochia fluctuations: Sometimes lochia can temporarily decrease and then increase again, especially after activity or exertion. Uterus contracting back: Your uterus is healing and shrinking back to pre-pregnancy size, which can cause intermittent bleeding. Physical activity or intercourse: These can sometimes trigger bleeding after it has stopped. Infection or retained tissue: If bleeding is heavy, prolonged, or accompanied by foul smell, pain, or fever, it could indicate infection or retained placental tissue, which needs medical attention. When to consult your doctor urgently: Heavy bleeding soaking more than 1 pad per hour. Large clots (bigger than a lemon) passed. Fever, foul-smelling discharge, or severe pain. Bleeding lasting more than 6 weeks or very irregular.
If your bleeding fits the pattern you described but you feel well otherwise, it’s likely part of normal healing. Still, I recommend telling your obstetrician about this so they can evaluate and ensure everything is fine.
