Guardian of a 1 yr old boy1 Year ago
Q.

Hello Doctor, My baby boy is 6 days old. While getting discharged from the hospital, the paediatrician had advised to breastfeed the baby every 2 hours for 20-25 min and burping for 10-15 min. However, my baby sleeps in the middle of a feed after 10-15 min and does not wake up even after trying so many things. And then he wakes up in 30-45 min (sometimes in even lesser then 30 min) for feed again. This happens the most in the night time and sometimes in the day time as well. Is it normal? Will it affect the baby in any way?

A. It’s normal for a newborn child I have to tell you this thing that it takes time for the child to regularise it so kids are usually sleeping for 16 to 20 hours also so you cannot force them to take a feed it’s not right and forcing the child to take for 25 minutes is also not right I don’t know why your doctor has given you that time it’s mostly suggested that you should feed for the child that your child is taking the feed and feed when your child take it again after waking up a precisely after two hours for a month it is going to be like this only but slowly things are going to get better as a child complete the time of 30 to 40 days
