Q.

hello doctor and mommies, my son is 3 yrs 11 mons old.he has fever since yesterday.i gave him paracetamol 250 - 5ml and after 3 or 5 mins he threw up everything.should I give him another dose..pls suggest

A. Fever is a reaction of the body to different pyrogens released during any Infection. Usually temp more than 99 F is taken as fever . Mostly in children fever is because of viral infections like flu or RSV where the fever is there for 4-5 days but may persist even upto 2 weeks . Initially antipyretic like paracetamol is given in a dose of 15 mcjg / kg/ dose. Can be repeated after 4-6 hrs if needed . Lukewarm sponge bath can be given as home remedy to decrease fever. Adequate fluid intake is also beneficial. Urine output monitoring is necessary to avoid dehydration .

A. Yes you should because if the child vomit within first half an hour of giving the medication then it’s sensible to repeat the medication which your child is vomiting in 3 to 5 minutes actually your child is throwing out all the medicine that you are giving so it’s better to repeat
