Q.

Hello doc, My newborn is 13 days old. He's not taking feed at night. During day time he actively takes feed. Kindly help me whether we need to wake them for every 2-3 hrs during night for feed or can we demand feed at nights.

A. very important to see that position and attachment while breastfeeding the child is proper. if improper the child will continue to suck for long hrs without getting any milk meet lactational counsellor who will guide regarding this. see videos on you tube for breastfeeding position and attachment. take plenty of water, home made diet, seasonal fruits and vegetables, xmilk for increasing breast milk for yourself. take 15 to 30 days weight and growth assessment by the doctor.

A. Whether you should wake a sleeping newborn for feedings depends on the baby's age, weight and overall health. Most newborns lose weight in the first few days after birth. Until your newborn regains this lost weight — usually within one to two weeks after birth — it's important to feed him or her frequently.
