A. Babies body heat is released through the head so it may feel hotter than the other parts of the body. But if u suspect a fever, Check the temperature with a digital or mercury thermometer. Keep it under the baby's arm pit and wait for a minute. Now look at the temperature. Infants less than three months old can have normal body temperature between 97.5 to 99.5 degree Fahrenheit when taken using axillary method (under arm pit). For older babies, If the temperature is above 99 degree Fahrenheit then you should give paracetamol syrup prescribed by your pediatrician. Follow the same dosage mentioned by the doctor. Keep watching the baby and measure temperature every four hours. Paracetamol can be given once in every six hours. If the fever raises above 101 and stays at high temperatures for more than a day, you should consult your pediatrician. For high temperatures, give warm water dipped towel bath to reduce the temperature. Keep the baby hydrated. Don't cover the baby with heavy clothes. Keep the baby in a well ventilated room.
