A. You can introduce solids to your baby at around 6 months of age, depending on their readiness. Since your baby is already 9 months old, you can safely start or continue giving solid foods alongside breast milk or formula. Signs your baby is ready for solids: Can sit with little or no support Holds head up steadily Shows interest in food (reaches for food or watches others eat) Opens mouth when offered a spoon Best first foods: Single-grain cereals (rice or moong dal) Pureed vegetables (carrot, pumpkin, sweet potato) Fruits (banana, apple, pear – mashed or stewed) Rice and dal khichdi, idli, suji porridge Start with soft, mashed foods in small amounts (2–3 spoonfuls), once a day, and gradually increase quantity and variety. Avoid: salt, sugar, honey (before 1 year), cow’s milk, nuts (whole), and spicy/oily food. Let me know your baby’s current eating habits if you'd like a sample meal plan.
