A. Cocoa should only be used for children 12 months and older. Drinks prepared for children from cocoa powder need to be used in low doses and gradually increased (starting with 3-5g/time and maximum dose from 19-45g/day). Cacao and chocolate products often contain caffeine and sugar—two ingredients that should be minimized in an infant's diet. Babies under 12 months of age should not be given cacao or chocolate drinks—or any drink other than breast/human milk, formula, or small amounts of water.
