A. If your 5-month-old baby is passing green stools, it can be normal, especially for breastfed babies. Green stools can happen for several reasons: Breastfeeding changes: Sometimes, green stools happen if the baby is getting more foremilk (the watery milk at the start of a feed) and less hindmilk (the richer, fatty milk at the end). This can make stools appear green. Formula feeding: Some formulas can lead to green stools due to the ingredients, especially iron-enriched formulas. Teething: Babies often pass green stools when teething due to excess saliva and changes in digestion. Stomach upset or mild infection: If the baby has a mild stomach issue or a minor infection, the stool might be green. When to worry: If the green stools are accompanied by other symptoms, like fever, vomiting, poor feeding, or diarrhea, it’s best to consult a pediatrician to rule out any infection or digestive issue. If your baby is active, feeding well, and not showing any other concerning symptoms, green stools are usually not a cause for alarm.
