A. Babies begin talking gradually, going through a series of developmental stages before they start forming clear words. Here’s a general timeline: 1. Newborn to 2 Months: Babies make cooing and gurgling sounds. These are the early vocalizations as they experiment with their voice. 2. 4 to 6 Months: Babies start to babble, combining consonant and vowel sounds like "ba-ba" or "da-da." This is an important stage, as they’re practicing the sounds they hear from caregivers. 3. 7 to 12 Months: Babbling becomes more complex, with sounds resembling real words. Around their first birthday, many babies say their first clear words, like "mama" or "dada." 4. 12 to 18 Months: Vocabulary expands slowly, with babies starting to use simple words and understanding a lot of spoken language. They may say around 10 to 20 words by 18 months. 5. 18 to 24 Months: Vocabulary growth picks up, with toddlers saying around 50 words or more and beginning to combine two words (like "want milk" or "big car"). 6. 2 to 3 Years: Sentences become longer and clearer as vocabulary grows. By age three, many children can engage in simple conversations and express needs or feelings. Each child develops at their own pace, but engaging your baby in talking, reading, and singing can support their language skills. If you have concerns about your baby's speech development, discussing it with a pediatrician can help.
