Q.

#AskTheExperts my 4yr 6 month daughter is suffering from coughing since last 1 month..she is on montek 4mg and nasonex spray. doctor has suggested budecort 200 as 1 puff 2 times daily for 6 weeks. Her coughing remains very less for the whole day..but at about 9pm her coughing starts with mucus accumulation in her throat. As I give her allegra 5 ml her coughing starts to decrease. is it due to allergy or asthma? will I start budecort 200 or 100?

A. The reason is that mucus from the sinuses drains into the throat while your toddler is horizontal, triggering the cough. Asthma also can cause a nighttime cough, as airways tend to be more irritable after bedtime. Contact your pediatrician if your toddler's cough is on-and-off and gets worse at night and while active.
