Q.

#asktheexperts I have been facing issues with the milk supply. Initially I was feeding my baby myself but then due to sore nipples switched to exclusive pumping which increased the supply and led to over supply. After that switched back to breastfeed for the last 10 days and the supply was fine and baby was not even able to drain off even one breast. but for the last few days the supply has gone down adversely and I feel the production is really low and not even sure if baby gets satisfied. so please advise what should be done and why the supply must have gone down even after feeding.

A. for low breast milk supply you need to take plenty of liquids and high fibre diet and give frequent feeding to your child so that milk production increases as it is a hormonal phenomena regulated by signals to the brain so you should feel positively motivated and do not try to give formula milk unless advised by your paediatrician and if the weight gain and urinary output of your baby is normal .if required you can also take help from a lactation consultant who will guide you in a very proper way regarding establishment of good lactation as well as will help yo>t6u in relieving pain if you have any. medicines are not of much help in this but definitely your diet is very important.
