#asktheexperts hii good morning Dr. My child is 5 months old now. she is having nasal congestion from birth itself. Is this normal to have this till 1 yr. I'm worried that how can we know if there is any chest infection?

A. Dr has prescribed Ambroxol hydrochloride syrup. can that be given? have any side effects? will this nasal congestion results in chest infection?

A. yes it is very common and will decrease with increasing age of the child This can occurs due to weather changes and temperature variations or simple cold and rarely infection. kindly give nasal saline drops (nasoclear /nasivion s)every three hourly and since it is a salt water/saline water it does not have any side effects and can be given again and again for nasal blockage and respiratory cough. It will dissolve mucus in nose and throat. For fever and pain give paracetamol. Anti-cold medicines at this age have got side effects so can be given only after medical consultation. Try to prevent temperature variations around the child and you can also give indirect steam inhalation and if there is no improvement in 2 or 3 days then meet your doctor

A. good morning no it is not normal to have nasal congestion for that long I would recommend you to please try to consult with the homeopathic doctor he would be able to suggest medication for this
