A. It's common for children to start walking independently at different ages, typically between 12 and 18 months. Since your daughter is 17 months old and still prefers to hold your hand, there's no immediate cause for concern. However, you can encourage her to walk independently by offering support in a safe environment. Try holding her hands and gradually reducing the support to build her confidence. You can also create a safe, open space for her to practice walking by using toys or objects to encourage her to take steps toward them. Avoid pushing her too hard, as some children take a little longer to reach this milestone. If you remain concerned or notice other developmental delays, consulting a pediatrician would be helpful.
