Q.

#asktheexperts Aswita is 6 months 15 days old. She is being breast feed 4 times , once formula and cow milk 3-4 times. Since last few days she is passing stool 6-7 times per day. The stool is yellow and not watery. We are concerned about frequency of stool . Is it normal to pass stool a few minutes after being fed and 6-7 times per day ?

A. Cow's milk should be given to the baby only after completion of 1 year of age because the protein and fat in cow's milk is hard to digest before that and many a times there could be cow's milk protein allergy in babies and lactose intolerance which could be severe sometimes. Also early introdujiction of cows milk can lead to iron deficiency anemia as cow's milk lacks iron and vit c . Also there could be micro bleeding in intestine because of the heavy protein of cow's milk .
