A. babies naturally suck their thumbs for comfort and may develop a habit, especially during stress or teething. it's generally okay until permanent teeth begin to erupt, and most experts advise against pressurging children under 5 to stop. to help prevent thumb-sucking: 1. use positive reinforcement, like praise or bedtime stories when they don't suck their thumb. 2. identify triggers, such as stress. 3. offer gentle reminders without scolding. if needed, consider dentist intervention after age 5.
