Give around two or three tablespoons to start with and based on the tolerance gradually increase the quantity and frequency. Continue to encourage frequent breastfeeding as it still forms the major source of nourishment. Avoid adding salt, sugar and cow milk till one year. You can give dal water, rice or ragi porridge, puréed banana or papaya, boiled and mashed carrot or sweet potato
ExpertDr. Minal AcharyaNutritionist4 years agoA. Dear mum, the best foods to start for your 6 months old baby are porridge, kheer, homemade cerelac, fruit purée. Then dal rice with vegetables, khichadi, curd.
Add ghee to every meal and squeeze lemon wherever possible.
Beginning with 3-4 teaspoons, give food 2 to 3 times in a day and gradually increase the quantity to half katori every time.
Continue to breastfeed.
