Dr Vandan H KumarFather of a 7 yr 4 m old boy1 Year agoA. due to pressure on one side of the head during sleeping there is flatness / abnormal shape on that side of the head.
no treatment is required for flat head / bumpy head and you will see that by one year to two years of age the flat head will go away as soon as the child begins to sit and later walk.x
pillows will not help much in this case so do not worry.
the bones in the skull are elastic so to give space to the growing brain it takes different shape and when the growth of the brain occurs properly then gradually they will take a normal shape.
POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy1 Year agoA. A flat head, known as positional plagiocephaly, can occur if a baby spends a lot of time lying on their back in one position. Here are some strategies to help correct it:
1. **Tummy Time**: Increase tummy time while the baby is awake. This helps strengthen neck muscles and encourages the baby to turn their head.
2. **Alternate Head Positions**: Gently encourage your baby to turn their head in different directions during sleep and play. You can do this by placing toys or yourself on either side of them.
3. **Adjust Sleeping Position**: While it's important to place babies on their backs to sleep to reduce the risk of SIDS, you can vary their head position slightly while they are awake.
4. **Physical Therapy**: In some cases, physical therapy may be recommended to help with head shape correction and muscle development.
5. **Consult a Specialist**: If the flatness is severe or doesn’t improve with these methods, consult a pediatrician or a specialist. In some cases, a helmet or other corrective measures might be recommended.
Early intervention is key, so starting these practices as soon as possible is beneficial.
