POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy4 months agoA. White spots around the lips and extending to the cheeks in a 12-year-old could be caused by a few possible conditions:
Pityriasis Alba – a common, harmless skin condition in children that causes dry, white patches, especially after sun exposure. Vitamin Deficiency – especially vitamin B12 or calcium deficiency can cause skin discoloration. Early vitiligo – a condition where pigment-producing cells stop working, usually starting around the mouth or eyes. Fungal infection – though less common around the lips, it can cause white patches too.
What you can do:
Keep the area moisturized with a gentle, fragrance-free cream. Use sunscreen daily to prevent further contrast in skin color. Add foods rich in vitamin B12, iron, and calcium (like dairy, green leafy vegetables, nuts, and eggs). Avoid harsh soaps or scrubbing the area.
If the patches are spreading, becoming more defined, or not improving in 2–3 weeks, consult a dermatologist for proper diagnosis and treatment.
