Father of a 5 yr old boy4 years ago
Q.

#AskTheExpert My son is 12.5 months old. He is an active child and hitting most of his milestones as expected. But when it comes to speech i am very worried about him. He makes all types of sounds, says amma baba ....but very rarely. I have noticed he makes sounds only when he is frustrated or while I am playing with him and he is excited. I try and speak with him as much as possible. He observes my mouth but does not imitate me. I am very worried about this. Please tell me if this is normal.

A. Regarding Speech Baby usually start mono syllable by 6 to 7 months of age then by syllable words come by 9 to 10 months of age then by 12 to 14 months of age baby say two to three words followed by jargon speech at 15-16 months . child can start saying simple sentences by two years of age . just make the child gcomfortable and do more interaction with the child so thgat he can learn to speak sentences properly. if the speech does not comes even by three years of age you need to consult your doctor for a proper assessment of the child .
