A. For your son's dry cough and cold, it's important to ensure that the treatment is appropriate for his age. Since his cough worsens at night, it could be due to mucus in the throat or irritation. Here are a few suggestions: 1. Home Remedies: Steam Inhalation: You can create steam in the bathroom (by running hot water) and let him inhale it for a few minutes. This can help loosen mucus and soothe the throat. Honey and Warm Water: If he is over 1 year old, honey mixed with warm water or warm water with a pinch of turmeric may help soothe the throat and reduce coughing. Saline Nasal Drops: If the cold is causing a stuffy nose, saline drops can help relieve congestion, making it easier for him to breathe and reduce coughing. 2. Medications: Cough Syrups: Depending on your child's age, you can consider an over-the-counter pediatric cough syrup. For dry cough, a syrup with honey or a mild cough suppressant like Dextromethorphan (for children over 2 years) can help. Paracetamol (for fever): If he has a fever along with the cold, you can give paracetamol according to his weight and age to help reduce fever and provide comfort. Decongestant Drops: If his nose is blocked, nasal saline drops or a mild decongestant might help. 3. When to see a doctor: If the cough persists for more than 7 days, or if it is accompanied by fever, difficulty breathing, or wheezing, it's best to consult a pediatrician. If the cold and cough are causing significant discomfort or not improving with home care, a doctor may recommend specific medications or treatments. Please make sure to use any medicine as per your child's age and weight, and always consult your pediatrician before using new medications.
