#asktheexpert my sister had her first baby boy 10days ago .. she s having shortage of milk .. baby keeps on feeds for half hour n sleep in between.. but again after a hour if baby cries for milk .. milk not coming .. shuld she take medicine for better lactation or formula milk can be given? please help she eats nicely n but still shortage

ExpertDr. Minal AcharyaNutritionist3 years agoA. dear More the baby is breastfed more will be the milk production. so ensure that the baby is only exclusively breastfed.
baby is passing urine more than 7 times in 24 hours, is alert and active and gaining at least 500 grams per month then the milk supply is sufficient.
Check for good latch, correct position while feeding
be confident
at one time of feeding feed from only one breast do not switch breast so that baby gets hind milk which keeps baby full longer
