Q.

#asktheexpert My newborn baby girl was born with the weight 2.9kg, but soon after 12 days she was about 3.5kg and after 3 weeks she is complete 4kg in weight, she is on exclusive breastfeeding, doing every other activity as per the age, peeing and pooping normally, but I am concerned about the rapid weight gain. Is it okay or should I worry and consult about it?

A. Rapid weight gain in newborns is not uncommon, especially if they are breastfeeding well. Since your baby is peeing and pooping normally and doing well with other activities, this rapid weight gain is likely a positive sign of healthy growth. However, it’s always a good idea to discuss any concerns with your pediatrician to ensure everything is on track and to get personalized advice based on your baby's health and development.
