Q.

#AskTheExpert My lo is 5 and half months old, I have started solids for him recently. can we add a pinch jaggery in the solid food as sugar and salt are restricted ? Why do doctors restrict sugar and salt ?

A. Dear ma’am, that’s because babies do meet their requirement for salt and sugar through breast milk itself and also naturally present in fruits and veggies. Whatever additional you add is a load on their growing kidneys. Hence advisable not to add before one year.
