POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 5 m old boy7 months agoA. Watery eyes in a 1-month-old baby are common and usually not a cause for concern. It could be due to blocked tear ducts, which is common in newborns. Tear ducts may become blocked, leading to excess tearing or watery eyes. This can sometimes cause discharge, making the eye look a bit crusty or gooey.
Here’s what you can do:
Gentle Massage: Gently massage the area near the corner of the eye (near the nose) with a clean finger, to help open the blocked duct. Do this a few times a day. Clean the Eye: Use a clean, damp washcloth or cotton ball to gently wipe away any discharge. Monitor: If the eye becomes red, swollen, or the discharge gets thicker, or if your baby seems to be in pain, it’s best to consult a pediatrician or ophthalmologist. They may recommend further treatment or check for other underlying issues.
Most cases of blocked tear ducts resolve on their own within a few months.
