Q.

#asktheexpert my daughter tends to breathe with her mouth after she has had a cold even if there is no nose blockage. i had earlier given her otrivin and prolonged usage had caused her nose blockage for a bout two months, but it has been a year since and now this time i did not use otrivin but still she breathes with her mouth as of nose is blocked. could it be that her nose is dry?

A. it is advisable to take follow up with your doctor who will tell you whether the problem is due to any type of allergy or or mechanical obstruction or due to nasal mucosa dryness or due to some other allergy. many times it can occur due to adenoids hypertrophy also

A. hi better to consult your pediatrician for proper evaluation. instead of using the medicines on daily basis, please do the following things ,it may help: keep your child head slightly elevated while sleeping. dress your child in weather appropriate clothes put a bowl of chopped onion or garlic pods near your child bed approx 1.4 feet far overnight, the smell is not so pleasant but it surely heals. provide apt sunlight at least 20 minutes a day maintain good hygiene
