Hi mom we are also facing the same problem. My baby has spina bifida. Now he is 4months old. We consulted peadritic neurosurgeon in apollo Dr tarang k vora.

He said to us surgery will be done when the baby comes to 10kgs.
He gave us 98% success rate. We will not get any effects in future.
Mri scan will be done when the baby comes to 6months. After examination of the scan, they will say. How complicate it is. Now we are going to scan my baby. On March 16th.

I will tell some precautions, told my doctor to us.
1. Always check the spina bifida would not break.  If it breaks cfs liquid which present in brain will come out. If it done. There may be several complications. So please take care of that don not break.

2. Please check the baby moving two legs normally. Because of that the baby cannot move one of his two legs.. So let's keep an eye on the movement of legs.

3. Because of spina bifida there may be chances of loss of motion control. Like passing urine, or motion continuously. 
 Let's check it once.

4.  Please check that Head circumference will be in normal.

5. The baby will get stiff or weak muscles. This will be seen on later months. U said that your baby is now only one month old. The baby will always sleep.. Later he comes to play. Then you have to observe.

If the above mentioned problems are not there. Then surgery will be done in later months. When the baby gets 6months of age.

it need to.be examined .Pediatrician should be consulted for this as for proper treatment and management this required a proper examination of baby by the doctor.  And also no any self medication should be given to baby .
