POOJA KOTHARIMom of a 8 yr 10 m old boy9 months agoA. If your 45-day-old baby has not had a bowel movement for the last 15 days, it is essential to seek medical attention. While it's common for breastfed babies to have infrequent stools, especially during the first few months, going 15 days without pooping is unusual and may indicate a potential issue. Potential Causes: Normal Variability: Some breastfed babies can go several days without pooping, as breast milk is digested very efficiently. However, 15 days is too long, even for this. Constipation: Even though breast milk is usually gentle on the digestive system, constipation can still occur. Other Health Issues: Conditions like intestinal obstruction or hypothyroidism could cause a baby to not pass stool for an extended period. Steps to Take: Contact your pediatrician immediately to discuss the situation. They may recommend a check-up to rule out any underlying medical issues. Gentle tummy massage: A gentle, clockwise massage on the baby’s tummy can sometimes help stimulate bowel movement. Warm bath: Sometimes, a warm bath can help relax the baby and stimulate the bowels. Monitor for other symptoms: Look for signs like abdominal bloating, discomfort, or changes in feeding habits, which might indicate a problem. When to see the doctor: If there is no stool for over 5-7 days, or if the baby seems to be in discomfort or has a distended belly. If there is vomiting, poor feeding, or signs of dehydration (fewer wet diapers), it is urgent to seek medical help.
