Comfort Nursing: Babies often use breastfeeding not just for hunger but also for comfort and closeness. Low Milk Transfer: If milk flow is slow or latch isn't deep enough, baby may nurse longer without feeling full. Growth Spurt: Babies go through phases where they nurse more frequently to boost milk supply. Cluster Feeding: Common in young infants, especially in the evenings.
What you can do:
Ensure proper latch so your baby feeds effectively. Burp the baby well in between feeding to reduce gas. Try to express some milk before latching if flow is too slow. Consult a lactation consultant if this pattern continues—it might help assess milk supply and baby’s suckling.
As long as your baby is gaining weight, has enough wet diapers, and is active, it’s usually okay. But getting help can make feeding more comfortable for both of you.
