#asktheexpert my baby is pre term he is born on 07.12.2024 but his due date was 18th February, 2025. He is not taking his feed properly that's his weight is still only 3.25 kg only. He has also not pooed for 12 days. what should I do?

A. Since Preetam was born prematurely at around 32 weeks, his feeding pattern and weight gain may take some time to stabilize. Premature babies often have weaker sucking reflexes, making it difficult for them to take full feeds. You can try feeding in small, frequent intervals and ensure he is latched properly if breastfeeding. If he is on formula, consult your pediatrician to check if a preterm formula is needed for better nutrition. Also, skin-to-skin contact (Kangaroo care) can help improve feeding and weight gain. If he is showing signs of weakness, excessive sleepiness, or difficulty in feeding, it's best to discuss with your doctor for additional support or supplements.
