Q.

#AskTheExpert my baby is 7 weeks old. I have been breast feeding him but sometimes I feel like it’s not enough for him. He’s still hungry. Is it okay to start formula along with breast milk as a supplement? Why is everyone so against formula milk?

A. Your baby should be peeing anywhere between six to ten times a day which means the baby is taking feeds properly. If not then make sure the baby is latching and taking feeds well or if ur milk supply is sufficient. Also there should be a gradual weight gain. Keep a check on these factors. Breastmilk is always the best milk. WHO recommends exclusive breastfeeding until six months. So far no one was able to make a perfectly alternate product for breastmilk which is highly nutritious and has some incredible elements. Formula is a close to and safe choice for those who cannot breastfeed due to various reasons. Breastmilk is always the best milk but giving formula won't harm your baby. Try ur level best to breastfeed. If u couldn't then you can supplement with formula with your pediatrician's guidance.
