Q.

#AskTheExpert My baby has very low appetite since beginning she would just eat 4/5 bites of food and would skip one meal every other day . Yes she’s teething.. but not having food is ok ? Please suggest me do I need to get her iron level checked ?

A. yes that's fine during teething (pain can start as early as 3 months) there is itching, pain, drooling of saliva, swelling in the gums, oral finger insertion, irritability and crying during the teething process. it will come intermittently for few days to few weeks and then will go away. usually teething pain doesn't come after 2 years of age. with the help of your fingers you can press the gums of the child to decrease the pain as well as you can give a pacifier but it should be clean. you can give a cold cotton cloth to bite and press between the gums when the child is crying due to pain not resolving then you can give paracetamol which will also help in decreasing the pain. long-term medicine on daily basis (homeopathic /allopathic )(they are painkiller)are usually not advisable.

A. See first you get the iron deficiency tension for your child that will come to know what is the exact figure of haemoglobin and according to that only if any supplement which is required for the child a doctor would advise you accordingly don’t give anything to the child without having a word with your doctor we do not consider it right
